Ruskin Elementary celebrated the beginning of a new and exciting school year by hosting a Family Curriculum Night. The meeting began as administrators and teachers welcomed parents and students to an evening of sharing and discussing state curriculum and school requirements. Parents were encouraged to stay actively involved through social media and were invited to join communication apps such as Remind 101, Class Dojo, Facebook, and Renaissance Home Connect. Parents were also shown how to access important information on Ruskin’s website.
The large group meeting concluded as teachers and students were broken into K-2 and 3-5 smaller groups. Kindergarten, First, and Second grade teachers briefly discussed benchmark assessments, Lexiles, and behavior expectations while Third, Fourth, and Fifth grade teachers shared important information on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics), National Elementary Honor Society qualifications, and Accelerated Reader incentives. All parents were encouraged to actively participate in their child’s learning on a daily basis via notebooks, study guides, parent communication documents, and other materials sent home daily.
The Curriculum Night Event was coordinated by Mrs. Janna Jones, Instructional Coach and Parent Involvement Coordinator for Ruskin. Donna Solomon is the principal of Ruskin Elementary.
