Ware County School System Announces Young Georgia Author System Winners

The Ware County School System is proud to recognize the following students as district winners in the Young Georgia Authors contest:


K - Braeley R., Ruskin Elementary School - "My Penguin"

1 - Jamaya H., Memorial Drive Elementary School - "Once Upon a Time"

2 - Jacey T., Ruskin Elementary School - "Christmas Spirit"

3 - Kami W., Williams Heights Elementary School - "Wisp"

4 - Jaxton H., Wacona Elementary School - "I Survived the Hurricane"

5 - Stella K., Williams Heights Elementary School - "Ursie Ate the Solar System"

6 - Erin M., Ware County Middle School - "Beaten But Not Broken"

7 - Claire P., Waycross Middle School - "Survivor"

8 - Maria M., Waycross Middle School - "Paintbrushes"

9 - Joey W., Ware County High School - "Great Cypress Falling"

10 - Meleah M., Ware County High School - "The Intruder"

11 - Ashton T., Ware County High School - "Countdown"

12 - Darrenisha L., Ware County High School  - "Rain"


These students progressed to the Okefenokee RESA regional competition level, in which they competed against grade level winners from other districts in the Okefenokee RESA region, including Atkinson County, Bacon County, Brantley County, Charlton County, Clinch County, Coffee County, and Pierce County winners. Six Ware County students were recognized as RESA district winners and will now continue to the state level of competition, including Stella K., Erin M., Claire P., Maria M., Meleah M., and Darrenisha L. 


The purpose of the Young Georgia Authors (YGA) writing competition is to encourage students to develop enthusiasm for and expertise in their writing, to provide a context to celebrate their writing successes, and to recognize student achievement in arts and academics. 


This prestigious competition has been engaging Georgia students for more than two decades and is open to any student currently enrolled in Georgia public schools, grades K -12. The competition is sponsored by the Georgia Council of Teachers of English (GCTE) with support and cooperation from the Georgia Department of Education. The Ware County School System extends congratulations to all district winners and wishes these six Ware County representatives success as they continue in the competition.
