1st Grade Bookbag Blessing

On their first day back to school from Winter Break, every student in Mrs. Halie Black’s first grade class was excited to receive yet another present. This present wasn’t dropped off by Santa or even given to celebrate a holiday. The bookbags that each child in Mrs. Black’s class received was simply a token of generosity made possible by their caring teacher and Burlington Stores through Donor’sChoose.org. Burlington Stores provided the 25 backpacks through their Burlington Backpacks initiative.

To make this gift all the more special, girls received pink bookbags, and boys received grey ones. Mrs. Black explained that in order to receive this generous gift, she submitted an essay to Donor’sChoose.org telling about her class and their need for the bookbags. DonorChoose.org is a program that helps teachers obtain supplies for their classrooms through community support. Their mission statement reads, “We make it easy for anyone to help a classroom in need, moving us closer to a nation where students in every community have the tools and experiences they need for a great education.” Mrs. Black and Principal Solomon are very appreciative for the support they received from Burlington Stores and Donor’sChoose.org.
