Wacona Elementary Students Win Fall Stock Market Game

Wacona’s fourth and fifth grade WINGS students participated in the Fall 2016 Stock Market Game, a 10-week Internet simulation of Wall Street, and invested $100,000 in a portfolio of stocks traded on the New York Stock Exchange and NASDAQ. Students formed teams, researched stocks and issuing companies, and entered trades on the SMG website at real-time prices.

Out of the 23 regional teams competing, fourth graders Olivia, Sianna, and Roy secured the win by having the portfolio with the highest equity at the end of the trading session. Under the supervision of advisor Jennifer Cone, the team was victorious with a 1.53 percent increase in their initial return.

Each regional team winner in Georgia will be invited to the annual SMG banquet ceremony held in Atlanta with State Superintendent Richard Woods on May 2, 2017. Mr. John Chancey is the principal of Wacona Elementary.
