Frequently Asked Questions

1.   1.  What do you mean by posting grades and why do I only have three days to post grades?

Teachers record grades on a daily basis or a weekly basis; how often they choose to record grades into their grade book is their individual choice.

Progress reports and report cards are printed by the front office in a school.  The individual grades from a teacher’s grade book are sent to a central location (the front office) through a process called, “posting.”

Grades are posted from a grade book into Tasks (these are reporting periods, i.e. 1st nine, 4 ½ week progress, 3 wk progress, whichever one is applicable at the time): When teachers get the word to POST, teachers will perform the Posting procedure.

2.   2.  Why are there three days allowed for posting grades?

Three days gives teachers a chance to post grades.  It gives them a chance to review the grades and make any adjustments.  Three days gives administrators time to address technical issues and print.

Report cards and progress reports should be printed the third “posting day”.  That allows teachers to get their reports and write individual information on them (day 3) before they are mailed or picked up the next day.

3.   3.  How can a grade be adjusted after a teacher sees the posted grade for the reporting task (report card or progress report)?

There are 2 ways to adjust the grade that will appear on the report card (Posted Grade).

Method #1: How to adjust a grade within the grade book.

Method #2: How to adjust a grade AND enter comments about students for parents to read.

4.    4.  What about adjusting a grade if a student shouldn’t make below a 60?

First, make sure this is your school's policy.

For grades in the grade book: Return to the grade book.  Click on the grade and enter the new adjusted grade.  Then, right-click on the grade and choose Edit comment and add a comment like, “adjusted grade from 45.”

For a POSTED grade; say a student has a posted grade of 79 and I want to give him an 80:  Once you post grades for the 1st nine weeks, if you decide to "bump up" a grade for a student, you can adjust the grade.  See instructions.

5.    5.  How do I add individual comments on a student to be printed on the report card?  See posting.

6.    6.  What about conduct?

There are a several suggestions: 1) you can use the comment section for conduct or 2) you could print some labels with different messages on the (using Word), and peel and stick the appropriate message to the correct card, or 3) you can write something.  Your school can decide.

7.    7.  What about Elementary art, music, and PE?  See Wacona/Magnet or All other Elementary Schools

8.  Why are there two different links for number 7? It has to do with the way they were scheduled.  It's no big deal.

9.  A frequent question from the front office about Report Cards:

1) how do we add a parent signature line,
2) how could we add a message like, “your student’s AR goal is _____ and your student has earned _____ points.

You add these in the “school comments” when you print report cards.  You can type your 1st message, double-space (press enter twice), and type your 2nd message, double-space, and so on.

10:  Where are the instructions for printing a Report card?  Follow the link.

11.  I need to change a 9 weeks grade after report cards have been issued.  What should I do?

You MUST speak with the data clerk immediately.  There are emergencies.  However, no grades should be changed 10 days after the grading period has ended without the permission of the Administration.  Teachers, remember that you will have the opportunity to adjust the FINAL Semester grade for students at the end of the semester.
