Wacona Elementary began the 2016-2017 school year last Thursday by teaching PBIS lessons. PBIS, which stands for Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports, is a statewide recognized program geared toward teaching students proper behavior and then rewards students and classes that demonstrate those desired behaviors.
Wacona's school motto, “Be Ready, Be Respectful, Be Responsible”, and illustrations demonstrating proper behavior are posted throughout the school. To make the lessons fun and interesting to students, staff members filmed videos of teacher volunteers exhibiting incorrect behavior and students with correct behavior.
On Friday afternoon, students participated in a PBIS kickoff celebration. Pictured are some of our students winning t-shirts by correctly answering questions about PBIS and proper behavior. John Chancey is the principal at Wacona Elementary School.
