Wednesday, October 10th

An Important Message from Superintendent Jim L. LeBrun:

This is an update from this morning's EMA briefing regarding Hurricane Michael. The storm is currently a Category 4 but will possibly upgrade to a Category 5. The current projected path shows it coming through the Albany, Tifton, and Douglas area towards Ware County.  The peak impact times for Ware County will be from 3:00 PM Wednesday through 6:00 AM Thursday. The hardest points of impact may be the Manor, Millwood, and Bickley areas in the western part of the county. Expect 60-70 mph winds and 6-8 inches of rain with this storm. There is a very high risk of tornadoes, downed power lines, fallen trees, and debris. Power outages are anticipated. The storm is expected to move in and out quickly. This will be a nighttime event. Stay off the roads. Do not travel. Curfews are in effect for Coffee and Bacon Counties. Safe shelters are available beginning at 3:00 PM Wednesday at Indian Mound Baptist Church in Millwood, Manor Community Center in Manor, and City Auditorium in Waycross. Ware County Schools have not been designated as shelters at this point. City Government closed at 1:00 Wednesday and will reopen Friday at 8:00 AM. County Government closed Wednesday at noon and will reopen Friday at 8:00 AM. The Health Dept closed Wednesday at noon and will reopen Friday at 8:00 AM. Please continue to monitor your surroundings and stay safe.

Thank you,
Superintendent Jim L. LeBrun
