Students in Mrs. Tori Lairsey's second grade class read a book called We're All Wonders by R. J. Palacio. To extend their experience with the book, students were challenged to use items in their classroom to create a lever and determine who could launch an astronaut the farthest distance. They used various tools such as glue sticks, erasers, and water bottles and learned vocabulary words like load, fulcrum, and effort. They decided that the bigger the fulcrum, the farther the astronaut would go. However, if the fulcrum was too big for the ruler, the launcher would not work. The mini scientists loved the activity! Mr. John Chancey is the principal at Wacona Elementary School.
